The Wolf Pack of Askell Thunderclaw - Part 4

Ok well it's been a while since this was updated. That sounds familiar with online diaries doesn't it?! Never mind, the update is here and its quite exciting.

First off, the excuses. I speed painted my high elf army to go to the pompey pillage, and thank god I did! However 2 weeks of solid painting everyday nearly drove me to insanity and I didn't touch a paintbrush for a couple of weeks. Even then it was a slow affair. To further compound progress on the space pups I decided I wanted an army that was a bit harder than a fluffy elf list so speed painted up a tomb kings army in 3 weeks. This was actually rather fun because it was so quick with not a great amount of detail work and led to a revitalised interest in painting. With that the space pups have been reborn and I've started on a rather exciting elf all cav army which is a long standing ambition and a ghost I feel the need to put to rest. But that's for a Warhammer update. This is 40k.

The advantage of this break has been to see further the changes which 4th edition has brought. As such I'm pretty much settled on a list now and it has already been mostly stuck together and the play testing has begun. The first game the list had as a whole was against Ian's Tyranids and I have to say it performed well. With a crushing victory marking its debut things look good for the list. What is this said list? Well ok, here it is.

Wolf Guard Battle Leader [frost blade, bolt pistol, frags, wolf pelt, wolf tooth necklace]
Venerable Dreadnought [assault cannon, heavy flamer, extra armour]

5 Wolf Scouts [meltagun, power weapon, melta bombs]

8 Hunters [2 power fists, meltagun, 5 bolters, plasma pistol, rhino - extra armour, smoke]
8 Hunters [2 power fists, meltagun, 5 bolters, plasma pistol, 1 deathwatch marine, rhino - extra armour, smoke]
8 Claws [2 power fists, flamer, rhino - extra armour, smoke]

Tornado [assault cannon, heavy bolter]

Tornado [multi melta, heavy flamer]

So that's the list. Subject to tweaks. The best part? Most of it is stuck together and a squad and a tornado are finished. You can see the pictures below. Overall im really pleased with the way they are going and I've had plenty of positive comments from very good painters which is always pleasing. The tornado was hard to paint, its got much more detail on it than looks suggest. So that's it for now, hopefully in a week or 2 there will be another update with more fruity painted space pups. In the meantime watch out for my Elf version of this and look for me on the battlefield.
